A waste heat recovery unit (WHRU) is an energy-recovery heat exchanger that captures thermal energy from high-temperature process streams and reutilizes it within the system to improve energy efficiency. WHRUs are commonly integrated into cogeneration systems and industrial energy management strategies. Typical sources of waste heat include exhaust gases from diesel generators, steam from cooling towers, and hot wastewater generated during industrial cooling processes such as steel production.
